Falmouth Kitchen Remodel

Kitchen Remodeling Project in Falmouth, MA

The Kitchen Transformation

As you can see in the before pictures below (Black & White Images), this kitchen renovation in Falmouth was cramped and outdated. The limited space made it challenging to move around and lacked the functionality needed for a modern kitchen. Outdated fixtures and a single-pane window contributed to high energy consumption, while the swinging French door further wasted valuable space.

Our clients were in need of a complete kitchen overhaul to create a more spacious, energy-efficient, and aesthetically pleasing environment.

Our solution involved not only removing the old cabinets and expanding the walls for necessary upgrades but also incorporating energy-efficient windows and doors. The result was a beautifully transformed kitchen that's not only more functional but also a visual delight, with unique design elements that reflect the essence of Cape Cod.

Kitchen Demo

  • Cabinet Removal

Starting out we removed all the base and wall cabinets. The cabinets were in decent shape so they were recycled and to be reused.

  • Wall Expansion

We opened up the walls to provide access for our plumber and electrician. They made the necessary upgrade of those utilities and to accommodate the new kitchen layout and to bring the kitchen up to building code.

Window and Door Upgrades

  • Kitchen Window Replacement

The existing kitchen window was an outdated single pane window. Our carpenters installed a new Andersen casement window adding energy efficiency to the kitchen and usability.

  • Patio Door Upgrade

We removed the swinging French door unit that took up valuable space from the kitchen renovation and installed an Andersen gliding door which saved about .

Flooring Preparation

The old flooring was removed and prior to installing a new wide pine floor, we hand-picked the new flooring from Stonewood products in Mashpee. The new flooring was stocked in the house and let it sit for about 3 weeks.

This allows it to acclimate to the environment of the house. The new kitchen floor was laid perpendicular to the long walls to make this narrow kitchen appear wider.

Cabinetry and Countertop Installation

  • Kitchen Cabinets

Once the floors were completed, we proceeded to install the custom Cabico cabinets. These cabinets have a Shaker style door and are in a light gray color. One section of the wall cabinets have 6 panel glass doors which was a nice addition to the dining area of this kitchen.

On each side of the dining area casement windows is a floor to ceiling pantry cabinet. All the wall cabinets have matching crown molding on top to meet the ceiling.

  • Countertop and Backsplash

We topped the new kitchen cabinets with a granite countertop. To add contrast while complimenting the cabinets, the granite has specks of gray, black and blue in it. The hand-made 3x6 inch subway style tile was installed from the countertop to the bottom of the wall cabinets and floating shelves. (See images below)

New Appliances

Near the completion of this kitchen remodeling project, we installed Wolf and SubZero stainless steel appliances. One thing you may notice is the microwave is built into the base cabinets near the refrigerator. This frees up counter space and doesn’t add bulk or hide the Cape Cod Map tile above the range.

Which include:

  • Gas Range

  • Exhaust Hood

  • Refrigerator-Freezer

  • Dishwasher

  • Microwave built into the base cabinets.

Unique Design Elements

  • Handcrafted Tile

One highlight of this kitchen remodel is the Cape Cod Map tile (See image below) that was installed as a backsplash behind the stainless steel gas stove. This custom made tile was purchased from Cape Cod Tileworks in Harwich. It adds a conversation element to this kitchen.

  • Floating Kitchen Shelves

Another feature is the floating shelves to the right hand side of the kitchen sink. A great element to add decor and a cookbook or two. The shelves were made from beam stock that is over 100 years old. We sourced materials from Cataumet Sawmill on Thomas Landers Road in East Falmouth.

Transform Your Kitchen with designREMODEL

This Falmouth kitchen remodel project stands as a testament to the incredible transformations we can bring to your home. What was once a cramped, outdated kitchen has now become a spacious, energy-efficient, and visually stunning masterpiece.

Our meticulous process began with the removal and recycling of old cabinets, followed by an expansion of the walls to accommodate essential upgrades and bring the kitchen up to code. Energy efficiency was a priority, with the replacement of the old single-pane window with a new Andersen casement unit, alongside the installation of an Andersen gliding door that saved valuable space.

Flooring preparation was a key step, as we hand-picked and acclimated the new wide pine floor, adding a touch of elegance to the space. Custom Cabico cabinets, granite countertops, and a beautifully handcrafted tile backsplash created a harmonious blend of functionality and aesthetics.

The addition of Wolf and SubZero stainless steel appliances ensured modern convenience without compromising the kitchen's aesthetic appeal. Unique design elements like the Cape Cod Map tile and reclaimed beam stock for floating shelves added character and charm to the space.
