How to Choose the Best Fixtures and Faucets for Your New Bathroom or Kitchen — @designREMODEL

Written by John Clark | Jul. 19, 2016

With the wide range of fixtures for the bathroom and kitchen on the market, it can be quite a challenge knowing what to select for your home. Quality is one of the most important points to bear in mind when selecting faucets, whether for your bathroom or kitchen.

As such, when choosing, don’t spend most of your time focusing on brand names instead of the overall quality. All you will end up doing is spending more for a well-known brand name rather than on the quality of the faucet.

Some things to keep in mind are discussed below.

The Type of Faucet

For the kitchen consider whether the design and size of your kitchen best suits a single or double faucet. You also have the option of a pull out faucet which is great for a small kitchen. When trying to decide on the type, find out the pros and cons of each one. For example, double faucets will cost more and take more effort to install, but overall they make it easier to control water temperature. You also have the option of a no-touch faucet, which can be great for people with arthritis or other issues that affect the use of their hands.

The Shape and Style of the Spout

Using the décor of your kitchen or bathroom as a guide, you can choose the design and shape that best suits your taste. Gooseneck and moveable spouts can be very convenient, but may cost more than a straight necked spout. Straight spouts tend to be less expensive, but they are not always convenient if you need to shift them.

Faucet Finishes

The finish is important especially if the faucet will be heavily used. In the kitchen where the faucet may more than likely be subjected to bangs from pots and pans, a tough finish is important. Chrome is still a popular finish for faucets for both the kitchen and bathroom. Stainless steel and bronze are also commonly used. When choosing finishes, look for those that are durable and will be able to resist scratching from scouring pads or chipping from regular use.

Apart from faucets other fixtures that you need for the bathroom or kitchen can be selected based on finishes and design. Do you want fixtures that are traditional or something modern? If you want something simple, go with clean lines and no frills. The best way to decide on the fixtures is to determine what the faucets, sinks and baths will be used.

Take your time to make the best selection. It will be worth it in the long run. Best of all, many companies are now offering lifetime warranties on different types of bathroom and kitchen faucets.
